Crown of Thorns and Mitre

On Good Friday, Christians all around the world commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. For Western Christianity, Good Friday is tomorrow while Eastern Christianity follows a different calendar and commemorates a bit later. Some countries as Germany forbid dancing and other festivities on Good Friday.

In heraldry, the crown of thorns is a symbol for Jesus Christ’s suffering. The Gospels tell he had to wear it while carrying his cross, to mock his claim of authority. The crown of thorns has since been a symbol of Christianity. We have added it along with the mitre, a symbol for Christian bishops and used in heraldry in several countries. With these two you can create even more religious and clerical coats of arms with our heraldry generator.
